He is one of Italy’s most authoritative cheese experts, famous for winning the title of Miglior Formaggiaio d’Italia (Best Cheesemonger of Italy) in 2022 at the inaugural Gran Premio del Formaggiaio, later becoming a judge for the competition.
After earning his diploma in accounting, he began working in his family’s shop, L’Angolo della Freschezza in Bologna, which was opened in 1990 by his father Valerio inside the Granarolo company outlet. Over time, Roberto radically transformed the shop’s identity, turning it into one of the top ten cheese shops in Italy according to the most prestigious gastronomic guides.
For 30 years, he has been sourcing cheeses from the finest Italian and French producers, organizing tasting nights and gourmet events, and providing consulting services on counter management for shops and cheese cart selection for restaurants.
He collaborates with and supplies numerous restaurants recognized by the Michelin and Espresso guides, including two Michelin-starred establishments.
In 2023 and 2025, he represented Italy at the Mondial du Fromage; in 2024, he became a Custode (Garde) and Juror of the Guilde Internationale des Fromagers; and he has been a judge for the World Cheese Awards since 2019.
He collaborates with AIS and AIES (sommelier associations) in Bologna and with ONAF (Organizzazione Nazionale Assaggiatori Formaggio), where he has been an official taster for over 20 years.
